When setting up a laser alignment tool virtually all of them ask you to enter measurements from the feet to the stationary laser. I passed this tip on to the contractor I worked with to reduce the 2X line freq who did the alignment in the previous post and he loved it!

Several rods are provided with our laser alignment tool (Damalini) that can be screwed together iwhen needed to raise the lasers above large diameter couplings. I add enough rods to the stationary laser so that if you rotate the lasers down, the rods extend nearly perpendicular to the horizontal plain of the movable machine’s feet. Then compensating for the off set from the laser’s measurement point (“burn an inch”) I hook the tape measure to the rod and enter those values from laser to each foot. The measurement process is accurate and quick. I used to use a framing square but this method is much quicker without the need to carry yet another tool to the site!
Woo Hoo....

Does the Damalini not throw a laser at a right angle to the shaft centerline showing the exact position of the laser? This has been standard on the Ludeca stuff for over 20 years. Smiler

Rusty, Very interesting. No Damalini does not offer that whistle. I like it! will look at Ludeca when mine fails.

When we bought into laser alignment tools cost of entry level tool was major consideration. At the time the Damalini D450 was the least expensive that met our needs for basic horizontal shaft alignments.
Thanks!

I use the Optalign Plus which has the "sweep" mode like the much more expensive Rotalign. The basic Optalign Plus runs around $8K but there are a number of optional bells & whistles. It is a rock solid, bulletproof unit in my opinion. It is the minimum I would want to use, but does all I need it to in a straightforward manner (Rotalign puts too much info on the screens for me).

The only drawback about the Ludeca stuff is the stupid, stupid, stupid smiley face!

Rusty

I can verify the rugged construction and accuracy of the Optilign Plus. We have been using one in a very inhospitable enviorment for over 10 years with great results. While the Rotalign is the (Rolls Royce) the Optilign is a dependable and easy to use workhorse!

Lucky me. My company has invested in Rotaligns 5 (Pro's) of them currently in use onsite. Plus we have 1 Rotalign Ultra being used as well. Amazing machine and worth every penny in my opinion. Rock solid machines if taken care of. I like the bluetooth connection on the new Ultra. No more cords getting damaged getting caught on base corners or caught on jacking bolts. Sorry not trying to brag. Just giving my opinion about Ludeca's line of products.

Work hard towards the proper solution, or do nothing and become part of the problem!
