Has anyone downloaded the 6/6/08 patch files for AMS 5.1?
Any knowledge of what they do would be appreciated. Danny |

What they don't do is fix the problem I'm having with lock-ups.
If the program opens at all (about 1 success in 8 attempts) it will work until I switch modules (say plotdata to dbase) then lock up. I found nothing on CSI's website about this. This is a brand new laptop with plenty of ram, processor, etc. and XP Pro preloaded. It worked at first, but seems to be getting steadily worse. Disabling the virus scan software didn't make any difference. The problem may have been made worse by the installation of MS Office Pro 2007. Any other suggestions? Any known conflicts? Anyone else with this problem? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Danny Harvey, Danny |

We, as a company, just switched to 5.1 a few weeks ago. I haven't tried rbmware without the patches so I'm not sure what difference they make. I haven't had or heard about any lockup problems like you're talking about. I can open dbase, plotdata and dbutly all at once--call me crazy. It's slow as molasses opening up, but it opens. For now. Most of our problems have been around 2120 communications.

We were having problems with MHM picking on different people at different times. It might lock me out of data transfer and somebody else out of diagnostic plotting today. It might let us back in tomorrow and lock somebody else out of database and then let everybody in the next day. CSI sent me a modified netadmin.exe that monitored our activity. After sending them several log files, they sent a patch that seems to have fixed it. This is one of the things in the patch, so I haven't bothered to download the one from the website. 5.2 is just around the corner though.

What OS are you running? XP PRO SP2?
I see SP3 is out but am afraid to use it. Are you running a doogle keyed version or a serial keyed version? |

I just walked back into the office and found my laptop asleep. Woke it up to find RBMWare running fine. I must have tried to open it just as I was leaving yesterday. At least I can finish the report in front of me. I'm sure not going to close Plotdata until then
Patrick, I have had my share of communication problems with my 2120's and still have some, but we seem to have a grip on the process. I have 2 single user versions and 2 2120's and am just figuring out the logistics of using them together. One system doesn't have the hangups. I had to replace my laptop and the new one is the one giving me problems. I suspect some sort of software conflict but haven't been able to nail it down so far. David, That sounds like a network installation that you have, right? You are right, there is a netadmin.exe in the patch files. I saw on their site that 5.2 is actually available. One thing I really liked is that it will be able to load data history and fault frequencies to the 2130. Now all I need is a spare3 $30,000 or so. Ralph, Running XP PRO Version 5.1 Build 2600 xpsp.051011-1528: SP2 and a serial keyed version of AMS 5.1. Have you installed 5.1 yet? I re-read your concerns last fall during my search for info on this site. How did it work out? Thanks all Danny |

Danny,
No major problems as of yet. Have not had lockup or anything like that. Slow starting up sometimes. Most the time I have Plotdata, Database Setup, DButly, and RBMVIEW and Route Manager all open at the same time with no problems except maybe DBUtly will not allow a change if a point is open in Database Manger. Only real problem I have right now is the slowness of initial startup. But who knows what will happen next time I startup. Are you by any chance running a "MS home or office network" setup in your office? |

By chance, I am running a network of some sorts and I am also having problems with it.
Unfortunately, my "IT department" hasn't been able to fix the problem. Do you suspect that they may be related? Danny |

I feel like my RBM does not respond on startup unless at least one of the other computers in my office is online when starting the RBM based computer.
Sometimes RBM never opens until trying many times, so now I make sure one of the other computers is online also. Seems to work, but can not say for sure that is the problem of the "slow to no" start of RBM. What kind of problems are you having with your "network"? |

Maybe this is the only time that cutbacks at our plant might be good. We still have not installed 5.1, as our IT dept has yet to sign off on it.
Sounds like a lot of people have problems, or are they the only ones to post? Mick McAfee |

Mick,
There have been some installation issues but I think you are correct in your thinking that you are only hearing from those of us who have had problems. IF I were under maintenance contract, CSI would probably have worked it out by now, too. For a more indepth discussion of the function of 5.0, you can search this site. Ralph, I already had a network set up and had all computers linked and able to share files. I have a router that is wired to several rooms in my house and to a switch in my office. The switch feeds 2 laptops and a desktop in my office. We have not been able to get my new laptop connected to the network and after the last attempt, lost the internet connection. I'm afraid that I don't have a clue how to fix it and my son who usually does my networking seems stumped. My regular computer guy had brain surgery and can't do it (wuss), so guess I've gotta go find someone. Ah, the life of the consultant I did disable the network and get it to open again and get my report finished. Maybe that will at least point me in the right direction. Thanks again Ralph. You da man! We too were having simular problems with 5.1, but 5.2, so far, seems to have addressed the problems that have been mentioned. There are a lot of the programs on 5.2 that alot of people like (ie. autoplot), and so far seem to be working well. If you haven't already installed 5.1, I would just wait and intall 5.2. It works alot better.

Scott, With the Autoplot function in 5.2, has CSI put the option back in where I can look at the spectrum solo followed by the waveform solo? This was removed somewhere back in 4.6 or so and customer support said they would check on why it was removed. |

As it turns out, the disabling the network didn't really help, let's say I just got lucky that time.
However, with the guidance of Tom and Shelia at CSI Product Support, I was able to come to the conclusion that it was PROBABLY something in the trial version of MacAfee Security. REmoving MacAfee frees AMS to work properly. I'm now wondering if the presence of multiple firewalls may have been the problem. I have the Windows firewall running now. I had the McAffee firewall running when I had the problems and there is possibly a firewall built into the router. When I re-install McAfee, I'll do it in stages and keep track of AMS' response. Versions are Firefox 3.0.1 (immediately reconnected to Webex after removal of McAfee) AMS 5.1, Windows XP Pro 5.1 SP 2. Unfortunately, I don't know what version of McAfee was provided. I assume it was fairly recent since this is a brand new computer. Since removing McAfee, I have had ONE instance of a lock-up on closing, but I was TRYING to make it lock by opening and closing modules really fast and it did come back normal after that instance. Other than that, it works fine and much faster. Thanks again to Tom and Shelia. Trust the pros. I'll post the results of the Virus Protection titration when I get it done. Danny |

Ralph,
I'm not so sure that is is like it was in 4.6, but to be honest, I like the new plot options and the diffent ways that you can look at the data better than I like autoplot anyway. There are more plot jump options available. I mostly use hot keys (old habits are hard to break) but there a alot more plot jump options than were availalble in 5.1. Scott |
