A rule of thumb for applying hp filters to PeakVue readings is to use the filter that is equal to or the next higher above your fmax. ie- 2000 hz fmax-2000 hz hp filter, 2001 hz fmax-5000 hz hp filter.
Does the same apply for Spike Energy readings? Thanks, Danny |

As far as I understand, the dataPAC 1500 uses the default 5kHz gse for spike energy readings. I've used it for many years with success. In other words, if there is a bearing defect, it has shown up with the default setting.

I have always based my filter for Spike energy on speed more than fmax. However, most of the time, the slower the speed, the lower my fmax also! I use the 5kHz filter for anything running above 1250 RPM. from 900 to 1200, I use the 2kHz filter. 600 to 900 the 1 Khz, for 300 to 600 the 500 Hz, and below 300 I use the lowest one (I forget what it is). I adjust these filters based on what I see in the spectrum. SOmetimes depending on what it is I am looking at (gearbox vs. motor), these filters may not give the best result (too much noise, or not enough of anything). But the speed vs. filter is what I start with. Good luck. Dave |
