Rotor bow means bent shaft as well.

1. A bent shaft must generate 180 degree phase shift between inboard and outboard axial readings.

2. See axial phase readings around the shaft at both ends! It shows twisting motion if your machine has a bent shaft.

Also you can move the transducers to see where phase matches...just as an interest of reference.

5000 HP sleeve brg mtr can be very easy as you have physical properties to be flexible in mounting arrangements. Confined space and/or lack of the right bolt in the right place can make it tough. The super duper magnetic mount may not be suitable; but could possible be suitible for short term observance.

Or use your imagination; or post photos - someone will have an idea.

Hope this helped.

Libra, rotor bow and bent shaft are two different things. Rotor bow is normally associated with differential thermal expansion of the rotor due to a rub or a electrical hot spot. When the heat is removed the rotor returns to a straight condition. Bent shaft usually indicates permanent shaft runout.

As for installing probes I have sucessfull done this many times by glueing the standard Bently probe mounts to the side of the bearing housing. Glitch is usually not a huge problem, but a system like ADRE will compensate for it.

Should one be careful if the ends of the shafts were not machined for taking such readings due to poor runout in the surfaces? If the ends are not square with the shaft wouldn't that give a faulty indication?

You're right, Steve.

I mean rotor bow causes shaft bending while machine is working.

Glue our CMCP805 proximity probe mounting bracket to side of the housing. Knock them off when your done.
