Our IS dept. strikes again. Yesterday while I was using RBMware (ver. 4.31 {yes a dinosaur}) I got a MS message that a network cable had been unplugged. I've seen this a few times uploading IR images to Flir Quickview, and just dealt with it. With RBMware as soon as the message hit, I clicked a piece of equipment and it told me no points defined Eeker, I then clicked on a route and was told no equipment assigned Eeker Eeker. So I closed everything out and rebooted (worked with my IR stuff). When I tried to reopen my database an error showed that I or someone was already logged on. Opened the logon screen and sure enough my database had an asterisk beside it. So I guess I was still logged on somewhere out in limbo. I then tried to logon as administrator to force a user logout. When I typed in my admin password, my database opened and everything was back to normal.....I thought. When I closed admin and tried to open my database, there I was logged on out in limbo somewhere. IS went to a back-up of the database (last Friday Frowner ) so everything I collected monday , well you know the story. Has anyone experienced this (if yall understand with all my rambling) and what could it be. One thing that strikes me as odd is that it appears as though Admin privlages have disappeared somewhere, and unfortunately we haven't had a service contract in years (4.31 should have given that away). Any suggestions are more than welcome.

I don't (and never hope to) have any experience with RBMWare and networks.

Be careful that "the Walls" aren't watching your keyboard too.

We've had this many times; especially when my boss stays logged in even when he goes on vacation.

You were still logged on when the net connection was lost, so the server still held your user name as logged on. You were able to get into everything as administrator because that was a different user account. If you can log back in again with the admin account, launch the "net admin" module. It is on the first tab on the start screen. When you get into "net admin," look in the left-hand window which is the user list. Highlight your user name. Look on the menu bar for the button "users." Click on it, then click on "force user log out." You should now be able to log out of the admin account and log back in under your regular user name like you usually do.

You can get your IS guys to stop/restart the services on whatever server RBMware is running. That's probably what they did as part of recovering the old rbm file.

That's what I tried to do. The net-admin "module/icon" was not there, so I couldn't force a user logout. Have no idea why/where it went.

I'll suggest that today, probably answers the questions why and where. At least I can get back in (for now), and haven't lost years of data and months of painstakingly setting up 1000+ pieces of equipment (and they wonder why I drink Mad )

Dear Roy, not that I should say something bad about your IS dpt, but fact is that I know a range of customers in the same boat as you. Having CSI, SKF, BK, DLI, Commtest, VMI does not matter. They do variations of this, even weekly: Has your PC a CD drive that can write a CD? Or does your FLIR camera have a memory card that you can access as a disk? Has the PC a USB hole for a suitable memory stick? If you surf to the database, take a copy (zip larger ones) and burn your own database and bring it home. At least, later, when a human error is done, you are the one to blame. It feels better...

We have vs. 4.70 (increasingly a dinosaur also!) and have similar problems at times. Rebooting the server has usually solved the problem for us w/no data loss or corruption (at least that we've noticed).

A little update on the "RBMware Baffler". I got all the admin stuff that was missing back. We are still unsure ( or someone's not fessing-up) as to what happened. Our Network IS head swears they did not mess with the server, however, he tells me that our building IS guru was apparently changing some IP addresses, which may or may not have put us in another sector of the server the RBM program resides. I guess "the world may never know". Am I still a confused individual, yes, am I glad to get the missing admin stuff back, yes. Just an FYI it was easy to do, right mouse click anywhere on the rbm main menu screen, toggle down to load RBM program, and wa la there were all the missing programs plus some. So I guess this case is closed (for the time being)

Pleased for you Roy.

I'd like to echo Arne's advise about backing up your databases. A customer of mine lost all his Odyssey data from February to December 05, including a load of new machines I had added to the database. Good business for me in setting it all back up again Wink but bad for analysis with all that missing trend info Confused
