Acrobat PDF files are the most common way to exchange printed documents and only require the free Acrobat Reader program to view the files. Files posted here are often in Word, a jpeg picture, PowerPoint, Excel and other formats that can be difficult to view.

Adobe Acrobat is a great program but is very costly. Fortunately, there is a excellent pdf maker program available for free! It installs as a printer, so to make anything into a pdf, you "print" from whatever program the original document came from, and select the pdf writer as the printer to produce the pdf file.

I have tried a couple of these programs and some of them are crap, producing huge files. PrimoPDF works beautifully and makes pdf files as well as Acrobat. You can download it free on their web site at:

Highly recommended and in use daily here at Spintelligent Labs.

You can also generate acrobat files directly through the Adobe website. They have an online utility.

Anyone who uses LaTeX can also produce pdf files. MikTeX is a free version for Windows.

I have used pdf995 for a few years since I learned about it on the old reliability-magazine.com board

It works great except you get a few popups every time you run it.

At work I am out of luck because we are not allowed to install any software on our computers - shareware or otherwise (big brother has control). I might try doc's suggestion at the adobe website.
