I have a motor nameplate that states bearings; 6320J, and a 6226J, NDE and DE respectively. What does the J mean, and is that manufacturer specific.

Hi Alan,

If i'm not wrong, "J" means Pressed Steel Cage...Your bearings are Deep groove ball bearings with pressed steel cages!!

Have a nice day!! Smiler

Jenish is correct. J is a pressed steel cage. For radial ball bearings the section after the "Type and boundary dimensions" i.e. 6320 is for "Modifcation of design" or in our case Cage and bearing ring modification. J is "Cage, steel, sheet, strip or wire form, centered by rolling elements."
