somewhere on this board (I think) Confused within the last couple of months someone put a link to an online 4-20 ma transmitter that they were using to supply a DCS that also had BNC connections for walk around hookup. Whoever supplied the link commented that they had been putting several of them in.
I had the link on my laptop, but unfortunately my laptop was stolen last month out in Sunny Oakland, CA. Frowner Mad
I have searched the forum, but can't come up with the thread.

If you recognize the description, would you please post the link again. I am in need. Wink

I am not sure about the link to which you refer, but I do know that you will find such a product on the Adash website, www.adash.cz, it is called the 3900II.

CTC has a new line of "dual-output" sensors, which may be seen here: http://ctconline.com/__lp400_dual_output_sensors__.aspx

These are available in a number of configurations. The dynamic output may be either acceleration (probably the right answer for use with most data collectors) or velocity, while the 4 - 20 mA output can be proportional to acceleration or velocity as well. In addition, the full scale range for the 4 - 20 mA signal must be specified. The range must be specified because of the limited dynamic range of the 4 - 20 mA signal.

A typical application might use a sensor with acceleration as the dynamic output, and velocity as the 4 - 20 mA process output. Process output set to RMS, with a maximum level of 1.0 IPS RMS, with a bandwidth of 3 Hz - 2500 Hz. This would be part number LP402-1-R-2-1A.

The complexity of integral electronics and the need for customization add significantly to the cost. These sensors are $350 for the version with a integral connector. They are also available with an integral cable.

SKF has a transmitter with a BNC connector on the side for AC output.

SKF Loop-powered Vibration Transmitter
CMSS 420VT

If you are going to be at the machine with a data collector, then why not use its accelerometer? The other options are to plug in at transmitter module or a terminal box, if dual output sensor is used.

CTC has (2) different style transmitters available that output a 4-20mA signal for the DCS and a BNC jack that offers unfiltered/non-buffered full range dynamic for use with walk around data collectors.

I guess I should have posed my question differently looking back in hindsight. I believe the box I saw allowed for you to use your own transducer, and then output a "proportional" 4-20 ma signal that could be ran to the DCS for overall trending.
I am looking for something that can be utilized for a chem plant.
Their thought process right now kinda goes along with the thread on Legacy companies. I'm trying to develop something that we utilize both worlds for right now.

I think I know what it is. The IMI 689B01 4-20mA proportional to 0-1ips with a BNC output direct link to a 100mv/g sensor. A 500mv/g sensor will give you 0-.2ips proportional to 4-20mA I use them here. But you know Dave, that CTC SC-101 is exactly the same thing with added benefit of specifying a band filter. It may cost less as well. I've had good luck with their products also.

The IMI 682A03 is the din-rail version of the transmitter above. If you already have a distributed system, it works pretty well as it has a few more bells and whistles, like an extra "raw" output, plugin filters, etc. We used these to implement a simple monitoring system on some baghouse fans using off-the-shelf accels and cables (from CTC of course... that lifetime guarantee thing is very smart).

I'm getting old. Too old to play charades. The pictures of the ones I see on this thread do not mirror what my old dried up brain has in it. However, The CTC or IMI ones will work for what I want to do. I have to use common accels, and may have to fool with outputs because we have some cutters that will peg a 50mv transducer with high freq g's in the range of 60. I currently use 25 mv for them. So if I can use standard transducers, output a 4-20 and have a place to hook my walk around box to I'll be happy. A reasonable price, small enough to fit 4 to 8 channels in a nema box along with some barriers, would be exceptionaly nice.

SKF has a brand new one out called DMx. If you have MA it will really work for you. We have put in alot of Metrix transmitters with 4-20 output plus a BNC for analysis as a low cost replacement for the old Bently racks. You can check them out at
