I have 2 licensed copies of AMS suite 5.0 and would like to be able to share data between them. I suspect that this will entail making sure that the files are updated from one to the other every time a change is made but am wondering if anyone else is doing this or has tried and found it to be too cumbersome.

Danny,
We do it almost daily and have been for a few years. We are running two separate sets of software and we copy the .rbm file to the server and back to the other computer. Unless you are doing reports in rbmview then you need to copy the folder as well. We use to do it with a USB jump drive before we were connected to the server. We still use the jump drive to put it on our laptops to carry in the field. We are running keyed versions so we both have our databases on our desktops and laptops. It only takes a few seconds for a fairly large database. The main thing is to keep tabs of which computer you dumped the lastest data in or you will end up loosing data. We do pay close attention to this and haven't lost any data yet. Ronnie |

Danny,
If you want both computers to be identical, all files belonging to each database will have to copied from the latest database to the other computer. Goes without saying. Best to use one computer as the MASTER and the other a COPIED version, if not, it would be easy to loss you latest data. We had 4 licenses in our office where I retired from and we did the "coping" on a weekly schedule and downloaded all new data to each during the week. |

Danny, I use the "Zipper" Utility to accomplish this, but I am just carrying files from one customer's site so I will have access to them back at my office. Seems the best way would be to conscientiously copy the needed files via some sort of "batch file"... haven't done this in years, but surely there is some sort of Windows utility available to do this. There are any number of programs available to synchronize files (including in Windows I think), but that shouldn't be necessary. A batch file should work... I think you can use the Zipper utility in a command line mode.

If we're sharing files, we usually do it over our servers, CDs, jump drives, whatever--it just takes coordination. If you have a router in your office, you should be able to copy files between pcs no problem.
