We are looking at possibly upgrading our 8 channel recording and analysis equipment.
I am looking for ideas, other opinions on this upgrade/what equipment to consider.

I have some information on the following, but would like real world experiences, ideas.

ZonicBook/618E ... EZAnalyst/EZTOMAS
Cognitive Vision

What we would use this for:
- Record vibrations and post process back at office.
- Long term transient capture.
- Startups/coast downs, cascade plots
- Orbits
- Modal analysis.

Thanks for your:
Hardware recommendations?
Software recommendations?
Experiences?

Mike;

I use the ZonicBook/618E with ezAnalyst/ezTOMAS. I suggest that you get a Demo of whatever product you are interested in. It is also good to make a detailed lists of applications and features/functions that you like or require.

Mike,

We have the Maars 5000 from Windrock, who is now a part of Dover Elevator. We can monitor 16 channels, collect and store data.

I am not sure of all its capabilities. You can contact Buddy Lee at Windrock.

Minor detail, but just so you know, Dover sold its elevator division to ThyssenKrupp in 1999 so now it's simply Dover Corporation. Does anyone know if Buddy Lee is still with them?

I talked to Buddy at the Vibration Institute meeting last week. He was with them then. He said they were still giving him a paycheck :-)

We also have a MAARS unit. The only drawback is the channels are multiplexed, so when capturing multichannel transient data for coastdowns you have to slow down the machine, or reduce the LOR and FMAX. Other than that it's a pretty cool machine. Ray Kelm has a neat machine worth looking at. We would probably have that one had we not bought the MAARS first.

Mike,

I have used various multi-channel machine analysers throughout the years that I have been involved in vibration analysis and I currently use Zonicbook 618E with ezTOMAS and ezANALYST dependant on whether we are doing transient data analysis or modal analysis, we also continue to utilise a dat recorder in series with the Zonicbook just in case there is any damage or corruption to data in transit. I have found this to be the best system that I have ever used and strongly recommend it.

Mike,

There is nothing out there technically superior to the ADRE system for acquiring multichannel transient and steady state data on large turbomachinery with fluid film bearings. The one thing I noticed in your post was that you wanted to use the device for modal analysis. ADRE does not provide ICP power nor does it interface into any modal analysis software. If you are doing a significant amount of seismic vibration measurement or modal analysis, you may want to look elsewhere.

I've been using the Zonic since way back when it was just Zonic, and not part of IOTech. It was a great unit then, and is even better since IOTech came out with the 618E. Data capture is limited to the size of your laptop hard drive. I've left the unit monitoring a turbine taking a sample every 30 minutes, with triggers to capture on change, for over 6 months once. I have two of the 618E's, a 16 channel and a 8 channel. I use them for same things you mention in your post. You will likely need a Modal software such as MEScope to go along with the EZAnalyst and EZTomas softwares, if you are going to do much modal analysis.

On comments that ADRE can't supply ICP power...the Transducer Power Supply card provides power to any transducers that conform to the following specifications:

Voltage Outputs. There are 8 voltage outputs on the card : 4 are -24 Vdc and 4 that are switch selectable from -24 Vdc to +24 Vdc. The voltage outputs provide enough current over the eight connector combinations to power a total of 32 transducers.

Constant Current Outputs. There are 8 constant current outputs on the Transducer Power Supply card: 4 are negative biased and the other 4 are switch selectable from negative biased to positive biased constant current.
