On another thread I asked this question and later realized everyone was talking about a laser tach. Just a little confusion on my part.
What I would like to know is there anyway to make a Monarch Strobe fire from a specific frequency out of a CSI analyzer. I know this can be done with a CSI strobe but we have not been able to do this with the Monarch strobe. If anyone has been able to do this, I would appreciate some feed back Thanks, Ronnie |

Maybe someone else knows different but I don't think there's a way. What model do you have? Is your tach not tunable? A clock function may have this capability but on a CSI???MOdel???? If you're pulsing and have a known can a clock do what you want - what do you want?

Hey Ronnie,
Hope everything is going well, I seem to remember that there was a particular Monarch strobe that would fire off of a 2120 but I can't recall the particulars. You may try contacting Kevin Steele at CSI, if he does not know he can probably point you in right direction. Also could you contact me at marty@sereliability.com about David Hickman. Thanks, Marty |

Basically analyzers I use don't fire a tach but rather the tach is TTL +/- 5V in as a trigger to sync the signal to the pulse rather than the other way around.

Ronnie,
I have not done this with my 2120, but heare are the issues: 1) Monarch Strobe needs to have TTL trigger input capability 2) Need to buy/make a custom cable to get a trigger signal from 2120 Multifunction Connector (25-pin) 3) Need to alter 2120 Setup to select 444-Strobe, so it will send tach signal based on cursor location in a spectrum plot. This should keep you busy for a while! Walt |

On the 2120 the strobe cable plugs into the 'auxiliary' 9 pin port, not the 25 pin port that the regular adapters plug into. With '444 strobe enabled', as Walt describes, put your cursor on a 'monitor' spectrum peak (this has to be a live, real-time spectrum) and then start reading the pins (plugs actually) of the 9-pin port. When you get the right one, you'll get the waveform on the O'scope. Connect this plug to your Monarch input and you should have it.
Or I can sell you a 444 strobe with case, cables, and charger for $600. Regards, Rusty |

Hey Marty. How are you doing? David and I are working together again at KC Mobile 251-330-2390. I am sure he would like to hear from you.
I guess this has become a mute point as we have a CSI 444 ordered but I do appreciate all the input. Sam, in answer to your question, I want to set a mark on a particular frequency, live or course, and have the strobe fire at that frequency. We have done this in the past with a CSI 444 strobe to identify where the vibration is coming from where there are several rotating pieces close together. In the converting area this could be very useful. Rusty, that is not a bad price but we have one coming. Thanks anyway. Thanks for all the feedback, Ronnie |

Rusty,
My earlier comment was based on reading the 2120 manual that said strobe connects to the 25-pin port. I dug out my old 444 strobe, and it has a A444-5 cable with 9-pin male connectors at each end. It includes a Model 444-3 25-pin adapter with 9-pin connector on side and BNC for Volts and Accel connectons. So it does not appear that the 9-pin Auxiliary connector on 2120 gets connected to the strobe at all. Do you have another way of doing it? Walt |

Monarch sells a strobe specific to the CSI 2120 data collectors. Whether it will work with older or newer models you will have to ask [not marketing...ask for engineering]
http://www.monarchinstrument.com/strobes_vib.htm You can get specifics if you call their engineering department...they will actually talk to you [or at least they did to me last time I called. |

Walt, on mine there's an adapter for the 444 that has 2 BNC's plus 9 pin on it. All this goes into the 25 pin connector on the 2120.

Sam,
Yes, that is what I have. The Model 444-3 connector adapter attaches to the 2120 25-pin connector, and then the strobe cable connects to the 9-pin connector that is on the side of the 444-3 adapter. I would like to know if Rusty has another way of hooking things up. Walt |

Walt, I think you and Sam are right and I am mistaken.... I believe it does attach to the 23-pin connector with the adapter. In fact I am sure of it. I just haven't used it that way in a long time. I pretty much just use my PK-2 "belt" strobe... hardly ever break out the 444 anymore.
Ronnie, do you work with Don Rainey? |
||||
|
Rusty,
Yeah, I work with Don. He solicited me away from another company in June of last year. It was a good move for me. Ronnie |
