There are several capable units in the 7815 price range, but I really like the ergonomics of this camera. Easy to handle and rugged, with a decent sized (3.5") TFT LCD display. For more information:

We've seen a number of students come through our training courses with the Mikron 7815 and they seem to like it. I would strongly encourage you to consider your real needs, however, in addition to "likes and dislikes." We find that when a system really meets your needs (budget, resolution, radiometrics, ease of use, software, etc.), likes/dislikes carry much less weight.

As Dave G. suggests there are a number of other products on the market at the moment that you may also want to look at and compare. I don't sell IR cameras of any kind. I have a short paper I'd be happy to share with you that I wrote about how to select a camera.

Regardless of what you purchase, make sure you get the training and experience needed to put it to full use! I still see too many systems poorly used or not used at all! Sad.

Dave,
Thanks for responding. Two weeks ago I called reliabilitydirectstore and left a masseage for you to call me. I called back and talked to a salesman that didn't seem to know anything about IR cameras. I have called back several times last week trying to get in touch with you with no luck. I would like to see some images and reporting from this camera if you have any. I'm looking real hard at the Flir EX320 and have seen the reports that the Hotshot IR does.
I'm new in the IR field and have been to ITC (level 1). I am going to buy a camera to add to my business. Which one is what I'm hoping you guys can help me with.
Thanks John, I would love to see that paper you wrote if you would be kind enough to post it.
You'all are the experts and I'm hoping you can help me to get the best deal on a good camera.

Thanks,
Pete

Pete,

Sorry to hear of your saga; unfortunately, it is all to common across ALL brands.

That said, I'd be happy to send you the paper I mentioned. I wrote it because I saw so many people confused by all the great choics in the market and looking like kids in a candy store after seeing all the glossy magazine ads! The first step is to define your real needs. Second is to understand how to discuss whether or not a camera can meet those needs. Almost always there are at least two cameras that will meet your needs and should be evaluated. I discuss how to do that with an even hand.

As for "the best deal on a good camera," you'll find pricing is very competitive right now. I'd suggest you aim for a "fair deal" so that the person you buy from can stay in a viable business and support your future needs. I will tell you that prices are "dynamic" and can change faster than the weather! Bid your time, look carefully and I'm sure you'll end up with a great camera at a good price.

Please let me know if you have other questions I can answer. I'll send you the paper shortly.

Pete,

I'll need your email or mail address to send the paper! You can send it to me directly at <<jsnell@snellinfrared.com>> if you'd rather not post it in public.
