- Good Training is a must.
- Lots of Experience is also a must.
- Know your market and Market your business well.
- Always aim to do the best work possible.
- Always take the time to explain the facts to your clients and educate them in IR.
- Don't be afraid to say you don't know something.
- Be honest and straight forward in all your business.
- Price your services based on your output. Never Try to under-bid or work for next to nothing. You will just give IR a bad name. Know what you are worth. Your work reflects this. Not your price.
- Market, Market and Market some more. Make them know that your out there.

These are just some pointers to help you out.

Thanks for the good insights Sonny. All very valid points from someone who knows.

I would just add that you're going to need to deal with a huge amount of customer data and that is always a challenge. To the consultant the thermal anomoly report, the equipment list tested status, the baseline trending of critical pieces of equipment, the cost benefit analysis of your service are the 'deliverables.' How fast and accurately you can deliver valid and useful information - actionable information to your clients - will determine the usefulness, in part, of your service business to those clients and help to maintain your clientelle over time.
