What would be considered the minimum qualifications to perform route based IR Thermography?

Thanks,

For the person or the equipment? I'll assume the person for now.

Like the other technologies, if you are starting from scratch then at least a Level I class to get accustomed to the terms, equipment and limitations of IR. Route-based mechanical or electrical? If you know what makes the equipment tick, you'll have a better understanding of what the source of the problem may be. You'll also be more aware of the safety aspects. I'm not an electrical guy. I know enough to know when to ask for help. Will the person just be collecting data or doing the analysis as well? You start venturing into Level II areas then. I know we've talked about certifications in the past, but at least you know what they should be able to do.

I would recommend Level II. Additionally, electrical safety training, for electrical routes, and related OSHA training for mechanical systems.

Additionally, I have made MIL-STD-2194 "Infrared Survey Procedure for Electrical Equipment" available to download from http://www.motordiagnostics.com/Presentations.htm under the fourth item: T-Solutions 2005 Tech Papers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

This is about what I had expected and the same as in vibration analysis. Level 1 to collect data, Level 2 to analyze.

Howard,

Thanks for the links to your site. Very helpful information.

Regards,

Danny
