Hi all,
i have a question for you... we have an infrared sensor at work that shuts off the lights after a certain amount of time with no activity. The thing is, i work at the other end of the building - usually late at night, and i`m getting a bit tired of the damn lights going out all the time, i have to walk up to the sensor and dance in front of it for a bit before it they get swithched on again. ok, so my question is: Can i buy or make a device that will somehow "disturb" the infrared signal, therefore tricking it into thinking there is activity? the infrared sensor is about 15M away from me so i guess it doesnt have to be too powerful. cheers steve |

Those systems often have a switch on them to disable the automatic turn-off. Failing that you need something that's warm enough and large enough for the sensor to see and that moves enough for the sensor to interpret as "occupied". These options come to mind: an oscillating desk fan with the motor pointed at the sensor; a panel with a few incandenscent lights on intermittent timers so that every 10 minutes or so they turn on and off in sequence; a conversation with the facilities manager. The last should be tried first. The conversation should include the safety aspects of the building's going dark with you in it. Another fix would be to add a sensor where you work.
