Folks
one more curious question. Are all IR-camera manufacture has caliblate the camera with black body. What can use instead of black body. Cheers. Phoo |

Generally one thing constitutes a standard, not many. Why do you need a white horse if the black one is OK, paid-for, reliable, etc... Why is it called a 'standard'?

I think you can use other source of heat that you know the temperature of its.The second use the tear ducts to recheck your IR camera.

The issues with measuring a low emissivity surface are: it does not emit much of its own radiation, it reflects the surroundings, a small absolute change in the emissivity (say 0.01) becomes significant when compared to the already low emissivity (say 0.1 to 0.05) of the surface.
As electricpete suggests, cavity and coatings can help. However, see this weeks tip (mine If the aluminum is hot AND you can control the background to a low and uniform temperature, then you MAY be able to get an acceptable measurement. You have to examine that from the equations describing the radiation leaving the surface. HTH, Jack Jack M. Kleinfeld, P.E. Kleinfeld Technical Services, Inc.
