I am curious to know what reporting software is in use by the group. I currently use ThermaCam Reporter 2000 and am thinking of upgrading to Reporter 7. Any thoughts/ideas/warnings?

Thanks!

I have used both. The Reporter 7 works well within Word. I think that I like it better for that reason.

We're using ThermaCam Reporter 2000 which was developed in the days that FLIR bought up the industry and decided that Microsoft was changing their product far too frequently.

Because of this, FLIR decided to make Thermacam Reporter without the application being OLE compliant. Of which, you are probably aware.

We are considering upgrading to Reporter 7, as well , but we haven't made the leap yet.

ThermaCam Reporter 2000 works well within itself, but it stops there. It is very frustrating getting anything out of it to use in MS Word.

I am using the Reporter 7.0 program. I like the Rapid Report Manager. Anytime I can take a dozen images and get them seperated on the right page just by click and drag I will do it.

My reports have definitly improved since trying to do them on Excel spreadsheets. I look back at my first attempts at making a report and shake my head.

Of course the down side is, you seem to end up tied to Microsoft Word.

The newest version is in fact Reporter 8. It has some additional features that were not in version 7. I have seen and used it and it is an improvment on Reporter 7. I will be upgrading to Reporter 8 when I change my laptop and upgrade to Office 2007.

Overall I have used both Reporter 7 and 2000 extensively and I have to say that I prefer Reporter 7. However if you are uncomfortable with Microsoft Word it may be difficult for you to use.

Actually it may not be an issue about being uncomfortable using Word. Some companies us Mac computers and some use the Linux operating system. One company I know of uses Open Office. I know there is a Word for Mac out there but I am not sure how well the Reporter software works with it.

Just a different angle,

I find that the FLIR software (2000 & 7) is very tedious if you create reports with the purpose of trending temp, along with the normal purposes. I don't know when we will be upgrading, but does anyone know of a camera that allows you to store a machinery route database in the camera? That would be nice... I guess we analysts (at my plant) are just used to dealing with more automated software, like with vibration systems. Whaan whan Anyway... PrimoPDF helps me with Reporter 2000 (if you know how to use Adobe Reader) - it's not Word, but it is still useful for sending files to coworkers/supervisors.

Thank you all for your replies. I have since spoken to FLIR and gotten a 30-day trial version of the Reporter 8 software. I'll give it a try. Also, while straightening up my desk I found a trial version of the Infraspection Institute software, "Exception 2000." Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Thanks again for the help!

I would advise:

1) Seek non proprietary software as IR Cameras are becoming commodity items. You do not want to loose your IR Scanning history if move to a new camera manufacturer.

2) Make sure you can do more than import a JPEG. Look for software that will import all image data and will allow you to do post processing.

Jeffro; You might want to give the Fluke cameras with their ConditionRed software a look. From the demo's I've seen they've designed it with inspection route/trending functionality in mind.

I've found Reporter 2000 a little user-unfriendly, but reasonable enough not to require upgrading for a while. The only recurring problem seems to be some issues with printing to PDF or paper; the font size changes slightly and print outside of closely fitted text boxes.

We have been using Inspectrend for over 3 years and are very happy with the system. We are a service company running a fleet of 17 infrared cameras generating around 12 reports/day.

The vendor support is outstanding, always available and very technically skilled.

We do endorse the Inspectrend solution from Logos Computer Solution in Seattle.

Hi Thermographer. Answering your question, Yes, it is possible to generate reports even in case you do not find any problems in the inspection. There are many reports available. Inspection summary, problems, reincidences, list of inspected equipment, inspecions history, list of open problems, list of closed problems, etc.

Inspectrend is a database system as well as an excellent report generation system.

Feel free to contact me should you need any additional info.

Raul- The reason that it doesn't work is because as with all of these companies when they jump in a number from say 7.9 to 8.0 there is a cost. Not sure what the FLIR Cost is. That is probably why you can't get it to take.
