I am looking at doing some onsite oil analysis to compliment the samples on the bigger equipment we send out and liked the Fluidscan, but at $19k, that is way out of our price range.

I would like to be able to do a quick test during the oil changes of the smaller gearboxes that are not worth sending out for samples, but still get a good idea if we are waiting too long to change the oil or if we still have good life left. I am not concerned about metal particles, more viscosity checks and overall contamination. I see SKF has the TMEH-1 that looks like it might do what we want, does anyone know of any other products that can give an indication of the oil condition for less then $5k and/or feedback on the SKF unit?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

There is no single tool available in the market that coould do all the key OA tests. I have seen demo of FluidScan which seems to be the best available in the market as far as basic tests are concerned however still has limitations, like it can't do viscosity test and particle count. And as said, its quite expensive too. The cheap option I have used myself is the Kittiwake DG Oil analysis kit that costs within USD 5000 to conduct 4 basic tests i.e. Viscosity (comparison), water content, TAN/TBN and insoluables.

I would suggest you to visit the site,
http://www.kittiwake.com/DIGI_Field_Test_Kit.htm and have a look on various options.

Regards
Mohammad
