POsted on behalf of Mike Palmer by Terrence O'Hanlon

When new bearings have been installed on say a 30 – 60 HP three phase motor, what is the correct amount of grease that should be pumped into the bearing cavity?

Thank you, Mike Palmer

Terrence, please refer Mike to the post on 8'bearing lubrication dated 21 September 2004. The SKF formula for quantity of grease on initial lubrication and re-lubrication are there. However here is the formula (bearing O.D. X bearing width X .114) this will give you the quantity of grease in ounces on initial lubrication. Dependant upon the service of the motor, that will determine the quantity (25-30%)on re-lubrication and frequency. This information can be found on the SKF websight also.
