Does any one know of any articles on the proceedure for taking Transformer oil samples and maybe a list of do and do nots?

Also does anyone know the best way to get rid of old transformer oil?

A few links:

Also you might ask for instructions from your lab especially if they provide you with syringes. That would also include handling of the sample syringes after they're drawn.

A few thoughts:

Never try to sample an energized instrument transformer. (CT or PT). It may cause a violent explosion. Stay away from sampling deenergized bushings unless you really know what you're doing with respect to cleanliness.

Check for indication of positive pressure before you open a sample valve.

There's no substitute for training.

Mike,

I tried to call you several times today to discuss the Transformer Oil testing. Please email me when it may be a good time to call you.

PredictUSA may also be a source. Check 'em out and ask for Doug Holmes.

1)Read ASTM D3613-98 and ASTM D 923-97
2)Neta has two or three interesting articles on this matter. See electricpete's post above.
