Hello guys,

I'm new to Oil analysis. Recently i encounter an analysis of an oil that having high particle count of 2 microns. Meaning the oil is contaminate with less/more of 2 microns size particles.

IS this dangerous and will affect much on the bearings/lube? I'm recommend to change the oil filter and hope it will improve.

Any suggestion/comments?

I don't think the forum members can give much without more info.

What type of oil system on what type of machine? Sleeve or rolling bearings? What are the particle results in the ISO format (for example 20/17/12). How big is the sump and what type of filtering and where do you sample.

Maybe the last questions are not essential, but we need something more to go on to put your question in context.

Here is some more info with suggested ISO limits for various types of machines:

You might also try searching "cleanliness code" and "particle size" here in the search box here:

You also need to realise that a lube-oil sampling program, like a vibration program, is a way to build up a "trend" over time. One sample in either case may not mean much. What you are looking for is a "change" in readings over time (trending).
If you find what you consider an abnormal reading, check it out further. In your case, get a more detailed analysis done to identify what the particles are and then where they may be coming from.

You should also have some knowledge on the clearances that your system have. The logic seems to follow that if your smallest clearance is 5 microns then even if you particulates of 2 microns, then it wont hurt your system.

2 microns is a very very tiny particulate, I think much smaller than the red blood cells.
