Can anyone suggest me that journal (babbited pads) bearings are on position with no oil,how long can remain as this condition?
factory tested and transported with ful of oil,now remain no oil past two months... Is there any frequency(deadline period )...does it make any different....please give datas... forced oil lubrication will be followed afterwards. You might check with the OEM.
Here is a GE document regarding long-term motor storage http://www.geindustrial.com.br...s/ingles/geep395.pdf
I don't think the babbit itself would rust, but other components of the bearing may rust. And there are other reasons for periodic rotation including preventing shaft bow of long shafts. |

The babbit can't rust (no iron content) but many of the bearing shells are cast iron and can rust over time. The shaft journal can definitely rust and that would be a major concern, along with shaft bow, as Pete mentioned.
