Hello,

I use a pore blockage particle counter. These units use varing sized screens in order to calculate the ISO particle counts.

When screens get older and crusty they are cleaned using an ultrasonic bath and if they can no longer be calibrated (via a calibration fluid) they are useless.

I wish to experiment cleaning these screens using other methods... any thoughts?

On my list so far are Oxiclean and Keytone.

How many microns can your screen catch?

We use a Diagnostics pore blockage counter and we clean by letting the filter soak in trichlorethylene or methylene. It seems to do the job.

We too worked with Diagnetics for many years and found the trichloroethylene cleaned the filter screens in > 95% of the cases.

For really mucked up screens (contaminated with grease, or a really tenacious EP additive), we took a page out of our old ferrography book and cleaned them with 50% toluene / 50% hexane (fume hood required / kids dont try this at home / etc.). If that didn't do it, the screen was toast.
