Factory greased for life!

Think this is more of a sales gimmick than real life. Grease type is excellent but this is on a pump and it has lip seals. Bearings are packed and the literature says the housings are packed, not 1/3 or 1/2 but packed, like full.

Your thoughts?

Huh.. Confused

Maybe the life of the pump is two years Big Grin
It is a little difficult to give an opinion without knowing the underlying facts.

Pump is split case style. Impeller sets between the bearings.
Used for chilled water circulation.
It is about 300 HP.
Antifriction bearings.
Variable frequency drive.
1200 RPM full speed.

A 300 HP pump is not 2 cents. Probably the term greased for life applies for the period between "factory prescribed overhauls"

1200 rpm makes it a good candidate for sealed bearings if it was a small (5 HP) unit, but not for an industrial workhorse.

I'm not following your statement (A 300 HP pump is not 2 cents)?

I think Steven's just making the point that its an expensive pump to fail and probably the manufacturers are hoping you will spend the bucks to have it overhauled every 2 years (cause it may need it!) Smiler
