The Maximo thread has been quiet for some time. Is anyone out there going through the upgrade to version 6? Has anyone purchased Mobile MXES? If so, do you have it up and running yet? I'd like to get a thread going on Maximo upgrade and Mobile experiences if there are enough interested parties. We are in the middle of both right now.

I'm not in Maximo, but my plant will run a Mobile proyect soon. Could you describe your experience with the mobile project so far? Also, in which industry are you working?

Shelly,
The best advise I can give you is to make sure that you put all of your expectations in writing up front and do not hand over the first dime until they all are met. They (MRO) totally botched our upgrade from 4.1.1 a year and a half ago. They sent us totally incompetent consultants that were incapable of pulling off the upgrade. They ended up damaging some of our existing files and wiping out one of our back-ups and never once did we have a working product from them. MRO insisted on being paid all of their $$$ for the original scope of work before they would consider sending anyone else to repair the damage. We ended up dumping Maximo all together due to the incompetence they showed us and refusal to make it right without attaching more money. Best of luck to you.

Get all business process maps.
Test them on demo copy rigorously before sending out PO.
Normally, they will say the current version is no longer supported. So clients have to upgrade. Hopefully better but maybe not.

Eugene,
Sorry for the delayed response. I haven't been able to check the forum the past few days. Anyway, the jury is still out on the mobile application. It has taken much longer to implement than expected. Our hope was that by integrating the mobile application in as part of the overall Maximo system, we would have a smoother flow and more consistency between the warehouse and the work in the field. What I have seen from the Mobile Inventory portion is that the design of the software doesn't intuitively follow the overall Maximo logic. We are also having speed issues...whether the cause is hardware or software is yet to be determined. It is not an easy installation and start-up. Lots of time has been spent developing just the right queries for downloads. If you are in a wireless environment, it is probably better. We are not able to go wireless yet. I'll give you an update when we get everything running.

I honestly don't think there are more than a handful of companies who actually have Mobile Maximo up and running. It's hard when you are one of the first customers....you feel like beta testers.

My company is not in a manufacturing industry. We are supporting the facilities maintenance work at a national laboratory - govt and research work.

Our storeroom houses about 7000 stocked item numbers, and we handle about 45,000 work orders a year.
