How to manage calibration of instruments, validation of custody transfer meters or recertification of hoists in Maximo?

We currently use fixed time PM which works fine except when the calibration, validation or recertification works take some time to do eg 1 to 3 months. In this case, when the next PM work order is triggered, the equipment is still valid because their start of validity date is later by 1 to 3 months than the start date of the PM counter. Is there a special functionality in Maximo to resolve this problem?

Another case is when we have a standby unit to replace the going to be expired unit in use now. Sometimes the standby unit has been recertified immediately upon receipt from offshore and kept in warehouse for 1 to 3 months. So by the time this standby unit is shipped and reaches offshore, it is only valid for 5 to 3 months, not fully 6 monthly which we require. This certainly causes havoc to the fixed time PM schedule. Any idea how to resolve this problem in Maximo?

I assume (hate to do that) your equipment has unique tag (asset) numbers? If the replacement is by work order, then use that as a trigger to change the status of the asset or component to go into a "Repair" or "Rebuild" staus, and have all associated PM's put on hold until it is changed back to an "Active" status.
