We are looking to go with a new cmms here in the next 9 months and and I have been challenged to come up with a naming scheme for parts. Is there something out there that could help me me define my parts ? AN example would be bearing ,flange*** or conduit, aluminum***. We would like to use something that is industry standard instead reinventing the wheel. If anyone has ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks mike

Not the standard but what I think are logic recomendations:
* Talk with the users who will search information on the part lists: *** How the buyers/vendors call the parts when communicating with each other *** How the manufacturers manual name them. * Use first the very word that describe what the part is, for example: *** Fuse, 0.5V *** Do not enter 0.5V Fuse Darth Eugene Vader |

Mike,
One thing I would like to add,,,,No matter what convention you pick for naming parts, it is extremely vital that you insure absolute perfect consistency throughout your data base. This includes ALL information listed in your part descriptions. Without this important attention to detail, you will not be able to return all applicable parts when doing searches within your new CMMS. |
