Integrating with Accounting & HRM is absolutely important. Accounting for budget monitoring. HRM for personnel master data & timesheet. Even for those CMMS without finance & HRM components, somehow they have to include these aspects in their software. Tq

To speed up asset master data build up, I have 2 ideas:

1) Maybe CMMS supplier should include spreadsheet templates in their package for mass uploading or downloading the master data into the CMMS & the templates can be used by the client for subsequent changes. Can the CMMS supplier also act as maint improvement consultant offering advice to improve weak areas?

2) Include CMMS installation cum master data build up from the project phase ie from design, engineering, construction & commisioning rather than installing CMMS after successful start up. All as-built master data shall be updated prior to project handover. All project documents in softcopy & linked to CMMS. Perhaps link drafting software with CMMS so that all data from drafting software like P&ID, PFD etc can be used to populate the CMMS master data eg asset hierarchy. If the drafting software can generate an eqpt list, this can be used to create eqpt masters in the CMMS. If the eqpt design software can generate materials list, this can be used to populate the spare list in CMMS. This means the EPCC contractor's scope shall also include populating data into CMMS eg drawings, data sheet, manufacturers' documents etc. Is there a software like this in the market ie integrated design, engineering, construction, operation & maintenance software? In addition, can the integrated software be used to model & calculate availability, reliability, maintainability, efficiency, capacity etc which shall be sustained during operations & maintenance phase? TQ

Terry,

My take on this information here.

quote:
Questions include: Once basic functionality is covered - do the bells, buzzers and whistles that best of breed sells - get used? What are all the advantages for finance integration? Can finance and maintenance work togther successfully? I would welcome suggestions for more questions and topic areas to research.

The best-of-breed approach is generally taken to refer to a patchwork approach whereby companies take SAP for finances, Maximo (say) for maintenance, peoplesoft for HR etc, etc, etc.

So it is an approach looking at complimenting systems rather than one system that will do all of the requirements of an EAM system. (HR/Financials/Maintenance/Inventory and often production)

The bells and whistles do get used, BUT they have reached a point (in my view) of diminishing returns. There is only so far that work scheduling software, condition monitoring software, operational statistics software, inventory optimizaing software and all the others are able to go before it reaches a point of optimal benefit for cost.

I dont think that standard functionality as we have seen it develop to date, will go too much further as it seems to have reached a natural plateau point. The future is in extending the reach of these systems through a range of additional areas! Exiting stuff I think.

Maintenance and finances can and do work together regularly. What I think is needed, if this is of interest to you, is a breakdown of the true levels of integration between financial, inventory, am and HR departments by sector.

That would be really interesting and would point quite clearly to industry sectors where leading (not Best but leading) practices could be gleaned from in this respect.

Happy to participate in generating a few questions etc if you like.

Cheers,

To measure the level of integration seems a good idea. Organization may buy a complete set of EAM but implemented it in a fragmented way eg:

1) Logistics & Accounting on 1 server while HRM on another server because the latter implemented later

2) Within logistics itself, 2 modules PM & MM were not set up to communicate with each other.

3) other modules are not used at all eg Quality, Project, Production Planning etc.

I don't the information system in EAM is really used to the meaningful extent.
