I'm interested in feedback from users of handheld devices interfacing with the CMMS.

How easy/difficult was the configuration (i.e. formatting PM tasks, input forms etc.)

How successful was the implementation? (any praise/complaints from the end users)

Thanks,
Charlie

Hello Charlie,

we have implemented handheld devices on several plants.
We use handheld devices with barcode scanners.
The configuration was not too difficult as we use them only for data input.
We defined and designed several processes with screens (e.g. for work order confirmation). The user either types in or scans the required information. The data is collected until the end of the day. When he puts the hendheld device in the craddle the data is sent to the CMMS.

The acceptance of the handheld devices is very high because
we simplify the data input (no more login at a PC required) and
we increase the data quality.

Maintiger,
Thanks for the feedback. I assume you make good use of checklists and dropdowns to minimize text input?
What happens when a problem is found; is a corrective work order with problem description created from the hand held?
Thanks again,
Charlie

What sort of handheld devices are you refering to? Is it vibration only?

Josh,
Scheduled Work Orders can be downloaded to a handheld device, which the maintenance personnel take with them. They carry out the scheduled work and update the work order directly from the hand held device. When they return to the office the CMMS is updated with the new information from the handheld device.
It avoids printing out hard copies of the work orders, duplication of data entry (and errors).

I'm looking for feedback from experienced users to understand how well it works in practice.
