I think he's referring to the databases used by different CMMS being incompatible with each other or not easily manipulated to get the data. I've been trying out Maintenance Assistant and you have to convert it's SQLite database format to ODBC format which can then be opened with Access or Excel. I believe most CMMS will require this if they don't have direct MS Office database conversion?

We are a CMMS software developer for 20 years. I’m in a strange position to help you with this question… but at least let me tell you that I never saw someone using excel being able to match a professional development by a team of developers, maintenance specialists and customers comments.

There are “open” systems in the market … I mean systems that are able to link and communicate easily with any other softwares you have or transfer easily the information you want for external reporting. For our specific solutions, our standard SQL database is open for any customer requests and we link our solution to small easy gaz meters up to extremely complex SAP systems.

Even if you are a “king of EXCEL, you will never finish to improve the system base on your user’s comments and specific needs. How many hours will you lost on this? So from my point of view… there are definitely other options than EXCEL sheets.

I hope my small comment will at least give you the “boost” to search a little bit more for a already built CMMS solution. Wink
