A month time span is reasonable and can be tracked easily.
I am against weekly schedules, as it can done by a simple checklist, reviewed by an accountable person, and proper acted upon by the responsible persons, which in case of malfunction make out a workorder if needed. Are you going to define all fire extinguishers as "assets" in the system? The next thing to come are all $125 steamtraps. There are other simpler systems that can do the bulk work. Yes, we registered fire extinguishers & manual valves above 2" because we need the tag nos to raise work order for them. Also we schedule their extinguisher inspection & valve greasing in cmms.

We have registered all lines and control valves, but no manual valves or fire extinguishers.
The valve extinguishers are weekly inspected and recorded by Operations and audited by Safety. The End of the Month Impairment List is the most feared document, thus I wouldn't dare to put my nose in it. I wished that the maintenance reports had that weight... Steven van Els, CMRP |
