Viru,
Normally you will always have different equipment numbers so you can track work to that specific equipment. If you need to know how many pumps are the same type throughout the whole fleet, then you should be able to do that by the manufacture and model number of the pump. It is difficult to use the equipment number to track the specific type of equipment easily. That is why most maintenance programs have different fields such as model, manufacture, equipment types and locations. To help show you some things that I have done, I have given you access to a program that I had to create different number systems. Email me at Dwayne.hartranft@tmssusa.com and I will send you the information. Dwayne |

Dear Viru
Each equipment must have a specific tag no. even when installed on different ships. You can know how many pumps of the same type across the whole fleet by having a generic pump class or type assigned in the equipment master record data. A good CMMS will give you this sorting feature and it appears your custom-built software is not matured yet. |

Yes, I agree that the equipment tag no. should not contain the ship no. but each ship should be tagged separately and the equipment and the ship should be in a hierarchy.
