Old Millwright,
Another interesting read.
Part of the excercise is to come up with the modifications. Yes the motor and gearbox should be the other side of the wire mesh. This is an example of RCM so there are a few deliberate thing in the design put there to ensure the whole process is followed.
The facilitator will no doubt take your comments and use them.

Hello Probin,

I send you an email and granted you access to modify the online RCM template. Welcome to the team.

Great to have new imput and discussion.
Thank you all. I will update the template asap.

Regards,

Rogier

Many organisations set up their CMMS without considering what they are going to use the data for and rarely define clear work process for their reliability engineers.
Reliability Engineering is at the end of the day the study of statistics related to the plant perfomance of your equipment so it is these work processes that should be focussed on to deliver continuous improvement over the asset life once the RCM strategy has been delivered.

Hi Paulius
Can you define what you believe to be the core reliability improvement work processes that an organisation needs to implement & focus on to ensure continuous improvement of their initial RCM Strategies?

To focus just on the reliability improvement processes I would suggest that the core one is data analytics. This is a detailed process of analysing the expected and unexpected maintenance and comparing it with your initial RCM strategy. It uses the data in your CMMS to either initiate RCA or be brought back into your reliability tools for re-evaluation of your initial RCM strategy. This RCM strategy can then be updated in your CMMS to be performed at a new interval or whatever the resulting review has determined. Please note that reliability tools enable engineers to transform data to information for decision making, they are not designed to "decide" for you but more as a guide to model different scenarios.

Many companies often implement RCM in isolation of CMMS configuration and often these 2 systems are miles apart. They need to be integrated so that both systems work together over the life of the asset. I have just touched on this review process as a summary but the techniques involved use many sub processes which would require a more detailed explanation in how the "integrated system" is configured to enable them and how data analytics is used for continuous reliability improvement.

Paulos, pls can you give us actual examples of reliability analysis based on CMMS-collected data to illustrate your point further, if you have?
