Why don't they start with internal best practice sharing workshops among their different mining sites?

Josh,
Thanks for your reply. I agree that it is always best to begin your search for new ideas and best practices within your own company and industry. This company already has a rather large internal group that is responsible for identifying and implementing best practices within their organization. I have to give these guys credit as this company has very rarely looked outside themselves for anything. In my experience, some of the best ideas practices have come from outside my industry. Can a manufacturer learn something from a chicken farmer? Most likely! It doesn’t have to be my idea to be a good idea. |

Hi,
I have worked previously in a mining industry and one of the aspects that they must look upon is their lubrication practices. Mining industry are heavy consumers on lubrication, and cost of spares and components in their hydraulic systems and mobile equipment that fail attributed to lubrication problems and contamination control. I believe that an understanding of contamination control would benefit the mining industry. My Warm Regards, |

Rolly,
Thanks for your reply. I agree, lubricants are an enormous part of the equation. The typical mining environment is very dirty and equipment is strained on a regular basis. Our company, Dingo Maintenance Systems, is currently working with them on Condition Based Asset Management, (CBAM). On average, we are driving $4.50 + quantifiable ROI for every $1.00 invested in CBAM. These returns are driven primarily through oil analysis linked to specific corrective actions, (on-site work orders) and improved lubrication practices. Any other insight you could share on your experience in the mining industry would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian Solem |
