I am beginning to develop effective inspection routes by maintenance in a paper mill. I plan on incorporating visual, temperature infrared and ultrasonic. This is in addition to a very advance millwide vibration analysis program. This routes will be performed by mill mechanics dedicated to areas to improve reliability. Any suggestions?

Maybe you can make it a joint effort to incorporate also some motivated operators in the inspections. The operator should know the operating conditions, which in some cases can deviate from "intended" and "documented" function of the equipment.

I concur, joint effort with the operators ensure there will be no overlapping inspection if the operators are doing any.

Start with a layout / P & ID drawing with all equipment on it and plan the route so that minimum time is wasted walking back and forth between rooms or areas?

Start at Room 134A
* Visual Inspection of equipment 134-XYZ-001
* Infrared analysis at Control Panel of equipment 134-XYZ-001
* Visual inspection at equipment 134-ABC-001
* visual inspection at equipment 134-ABC-002
Go to Room 134B
* Ultrasonic analysis of ....
