Hello,
I have seen a failure of an evaporator on a water chiller. It looks that the flow switch did not operate when for some reason (beyond the scope of this post) the water flow had decreased appreciably. I am not going to pose the question on how this could have been avoided. However I was quite perplexed that such a critical feature (the most critical I dare say) has been left into the hands of a third party when the manufacturer also claims how sophisticated the controls of the chiller are. Would it not have been much better that some flow monitoring device was included within the boundaries of the chiller's scope from the manufacturer and still request another one from the chilled water system side, thus having a double protection being such critical since there are a few causes for flow reduction/interruption. How is this featured in chiller packages specifications from the reputable suppliers? Thanks |

I thought assing a flow siwcthes would be process engineering design. Can refer to certain codes and standards I guess.
