Who is responsible for keeping track of your PDM programs(techs, analysts, managers)? What do you track, work orders, time spent, total cost spent on all PDM work done(contractors, repair shops, consultants), criticality of machines called? How do you put weight on a critical machine finds vs simple small motor bearings. Do you compare one factory vs another in your company?
It seems that if you are required to know the answers to the questions, you must have a very good cmms system with proper coding and the expert knowlede to extrapulate it.

- I think the best person should be the respective owners of the PDM.

What do you track, work orders, time spent, total cost spent on all PDM work done(contractors, repair shops, consultants),
- Yes, costs of PDM for evaluating its effectiveness, trendings, failure modes etc, others can add.

criticality of machines called?
- Should be defined ideally upfront during the miantenance development program.

How do you put weight on a critical machine finds vs simple small motor bearings?
KISS,
Criticality 1 - For equipment with HSE and/or production loss
Criticality 2 - For equipment with potential HSE and/or production loss
Criticality 3 - No HSE and/or production loss

Do you compare one factory vs another in your company?
- Preferably yes to know where others have done better or worse.

- U R quite right. I believe we have to know the subject first, then can computerize. Otherwise garbage in, garbage out!

Who is responsible for tracking?
* The Maintenance Supervisor / Engineer, with the help of the Maintenance Planner.

What do you track?
* Work orders, time, total costs

Criticality of machines called?
* Based on Process and Safety, Health, Environmental impact

Do you compare one factory vs another in your company?
* Not at the moment.

CMMS?
* Yes, a good one; but I have a discussion open on the in another board, to inquire what really must have a CMMS to be called properly a CMMS. You are invited to comment, see the "Other CMMS" board.

If tracking number of work orders for PDM, would you consider routine measurements of wear on machine components a PM or PDM. Some say that the trending of the wear is predicting its failure. Does it have to be technoligy based to be considered a PDM work order? How do you classify the work from technoligies (grouting of bases ,alignment ,losseness)?

We declare them as PM, although we recognize that our PM is much more than just time based inspections.

We have work order types in our CMMS under following definitions:
SF - service fitting (line changeovers/fiddly bits)
PM - work orders involving scheduled inspection/and or repair
CM - work orders involving scheduled Pdm
BR - breakdown repair
CR - repair has occured between PF and FF

A good way to monitor the effectiveness of your PMs apart from above costs is CR vs BR graph.
