I need to improve the reliability of subject PHE after the cleaning and gasket replacement. we opened a plate exchanger during a turnaround, after cleaning it was boxed up with new original gaskets even taking all measures which we normally do during boxup. the exchanger leaked during startup. we fixed the leakage online by applying some sealant from outside without any shutdown. what are the most important point to reliably box up plate exchangers after maintenance.

I have encountered the same problem before. Have to apply even bolting pressure. How do you clean the plate surface which has scaling to be removed, we use a chemical which can shine the stainless steel back without scratching the surface. Btw, what is the fluid medium, is it cooling water? Also we have 2 sets of hx which be operated in parallel or series depending on the operations or maintenance requirements.
