I have a quick question that came up in my motor diagnostics class a few weeks ago: Are energy and premium efficient electric motors more or less reliable than their predecessors? And, Why?
I produced an answer, but I am mainly interested in seeing what the general thoughts are on this board. If I remember correctly, it has been said in this forum that these premium and high efficiently motors are less reliable because they need more sensitive, need cleaner environment to operate to be long lasting and less robust. Is that right?
Has anyone tried to calculate the motor design reliability based on its component? More components generally mean less reliable, doesn't it. |

Yes, that point has come up in this forum. Has anyone had the actual experience of less reliability in energy efficient and premium efficient motors? And, Why?
