Get your backlog in manhours for all active outstanding WOs plus prefereably 1 month in advance for proper planning & scheduling. Exclude inactive WOs.

Get your no. of crews times no. of working hours in a week eg 5 days x 8 hours = 40 hours.

Active backlog crew week = total manhours for active WOs plus WOs for next month / Weekly working hours.

If you exclude outsourced manhors, then the backlog is only for own inhouse manpower.

If you include inhouse & outsourced manpower, then the backlog is for the total work for the plant.

So do you want to measure separately for inhouse and outsourced manpower? And just combine to the get the total backlog.

Does your planner plan only for inhouse manpower or for both inhouse & outsourced manpower?

Josh, I really don't know how to plan our job. Job almost execution by outsource and supervise by our staff, when planner plan the job, I'm not sure how to plan in WO.

Our organization have two team to execute the job, one is O&M and another is Maintenance center.

Decide whether to plan for O&M jobs only or for all jobs including Central Maintenance and outsourced jobs. You have to coordinate.

What to plan at the work order if the job will be done by an outsourcing subcontractor?

Regardless who will execute the work instructions (Maintenance Crew, Outsourced Contractor) the elements to be planned are the same:
* What tasks must be done to complete the job?
* which skills are required?
* How many resources are required for each skill?
* Which parts / materials will be required?
* Available from Stock? Need to order?
* Which special tools / equipment are needed?
* Availability of special tools / equipment? Rental ?
* Any special safety issue to take care ahead of time?
* Any coordination with Equipment Owner/Operator required for before/after job is done?
(I may have left something out)
---
If you do not plan for any of the above for an outsourced job, will the contractor take care of it or outsourced jobs are unnplanned?
