Hello all,

I am trying to develop a reliability strategy. Does anybody have some tips on connecting the company mission with the goals and objectives we are trying to meet? If anyone has a sample flow chart, gant chart or similar, that would be great.

Thanks,
Dave

Basically what I have now are the KPI's we track. We track these based on where we are, where we have been (bench mark) and where we want to be "World Class".
The largest initiative we are working on now is improving our hydraulic systems via oil analysis contractor, changing to glass media filters and air breathers, changing to a higher grade fittings and hose selection and an identification system to tie it all together.
Basically what I am looking for is a master plan that ties it all together from the top down. This will prove especially helpful when trying to justify large expenditures related to reliability.

dwilken - I think what you are after is a calculation.
Using MTBF (mean time between failures) and MTTR (mean time to repair) are basic maintenance KPI'S that you can use to show overall improvement.
Also maintenance costs which will be your justification and should track down due to improvements.

Maintenance costs need to include labour, purchases and stores value.

When talking about World Class, OEE is another KPI that is used - though more of a production indicator than an engineering indicator.
Though if you can tie this to your presentation you will be well on the way to linking your metrics to the companies overall mission.

The major and minor stops within the OEE calculation will give you this tie in.
