Does anyone have any experience with conveyor alignment? These are small conveyors about 3' wide and the longest being about 100' long. There are no walls that the conveyors go through, so they are all in eyesight from one end to the other. End to end and across measurements are what I am looking for. Would a laser system be the best to use?

Is this a drag conveyor or a screw conveyor? Each has their own procedures for alignment. Most manufacturers repair and maintenance manuals will have the tolerance information in the book. If not contact the OEM. Typically you mount an eye bolt at several locations and string piano wire from these locations and line up the machine to a given tolerance.

Rich,

Give us some particulars about the conveyors and maybe we can help.

Good Luck,

There are a few differences based upon product and design.

Three foot wide conveyance of boxes: So many typically layout using a chaulk line. If there's a slope, then care is taken to measure every section or joint based on calculations of the tangent per length and layout to say (whatever calculated) " 0.015 inches per four feet". [100/4(15)=mils or 25 X 15 = drop over 100']. Critical is side to side w/tol of 20 seconds or tan of theata x 3' (36 x 0.0002~) basically 7 mils per 3'. Or it could be level and/or chain driven instead of gravity.?.

Personal preference may be piano wire and transent over chaulk line and water level. A Starrett 98 will suffice for side-to-side.

Hope this helps. There are several approaches depending on a few factors. If additional info is desired or needed; please request and I'll address the issue as I have time.

Cordially,
Sam
