Hi, this is my first post, and I'm looking for examples and studies about the economic gain, using predictive maintenence. I want to use this in a work i'm doing, the objective is to show the advantages of this kind of maintenence. The principal objective is to show the costs before and after a predictive maintenance program is used.
Thank you for your help. Telmo |

If you could post your email address, I could post you some information which could be relevant. In this business, there are always questions raised about the financial effectiveness of PM work. Hence, myself and probably many other forum contributors collate KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) for discussion and review at the end of each year. If this is the type of information you would be interested in then I would gladly forward these to you.

Try this article THE BUSINESS CASE FOR RELIABILITY To UK Vibe Guy: Any way we could convince you to post the material here so everyone can benefit? Thanks Terry O |

Terry O,
Didn't think that anybody would be interested in my humble offering. However here it is. The spreadsheet itself is based on actual items found via the CM programme in 2006. What is a little subjective is the estimate for run to failure cost. However, since these faults were found on offshore installations then the cost of shutdown could have had massive financial implications. Note: I have removed the actual tag numbers to preserve confidentiality. If there is any feedback - good or bad, please let me know. Thanks Steve KPI_Information_Template.xls (34 Kb, 96 downloads) |

Hi Telmo,
This is no easy business. In my case, I had to put togheter an economical study to justify the implementation of a PDM program. I based primarily on SAP records of maintenance costs of the last 5 years and then I justified the cost of equipment and basic training with stimated savings of 5% of the total cost of maintenance of the last year and assuming a time of economic revenue of 5 years (I calculated the IRR). The result was that I still have a job ( If you want, I can post this info, but it's in spanish. UK Vibeguy, Thanks for the posted file. I haven't tought of doing that kind of economic calculations. You gave me a great idea! |

First I would like to thanks everyone. All the information has been useful.
Mechanical pawn, no problem about the Spanish, one guy that work with me is from Madrid. About the problems of the business, I think that showing the advantages of a PDM program without the economic study was enough maybe I was ingenuous. Now I’m trying to know practical cases. For example for company A, what they spend in stock pieces, stopping time, external reparations, extra working hours, etc. And what was the value for the same parameters after a PDM program. Regards. Telmo |

Sorry, I have a mistake in the previous post.
The second paragraph is: Mechanical pawn, no problem about the Spanish, one guy that work with me is from Madrid. About the problems of the business, I think that showing the advantages of a PDM program without the economic study wasn't enough, maybe I was ingenuous. |

Hi telmo,
Here it is. These documents ara part of a complete proposal that I made to my boss (and his boss). I attach here the 'master' document wich is an overview of the maintenance situacion (refenced to cost) and the second is the proposal of the predictive techniques that will be used in the PDM program. I hope this help you at leat a bit. Best Luck! IMPLANTACIÃN_PROGRAMA_PREDICTIVO.doc (94 Kb, 36 downloads) Master document |
