I am working with a collector of data called LEONOVA-SPM, but It is just a collector of Data, it is not a analyzer, so I have problems when i want to detect a specific problem, I know that the analyzer are better because It has the function to analyze phases (and others important features) and with this you can find out a problem in a better way.... So my question is How far I can go with this equipment in order to improve the Predictive maintenance that i have in my plant?

I will appreciate any comment from you.

Raul,

According to the specifications on the Web site, the Leonova can do spectrum analysis, balancing, and shaft alignment in addition to route-based data collection. You should study what features are available, and may have to pay additional fees for the added features. It also sounds like you may need additional training on the product and vibration analysis.

I do not own or sell this product.

Walt,
I know that Leonova has the option of balancig, shatf alignment, but this is something that you do in order to correct a problem. When you analyze an spectrum you find peaks in different frequencies and usually you find peaks overlap (for example, If one machine have a high vibration a 1X, is difficult to be sure that It is just unbalance, to be sure you use an analysis of phases, because perhaps It is other problem else).
In every paper about analysis of vibration i read about "analysis of phase" in order to find out a defect (bearings, alignment, balance, soft-foot,lossness,etc).
And my problem with my collector of data "LEONOVA" is that It does not have the feature of analyze phases.
For that reason, I would like to know How far I can go with this equipment in order to improve the MPd?.

Raul,

I searched this Bulleting Board for "Leonova" and only found this discussion. This suggests that most of the folks on this board do not have/use this product. Have you directed your question to SPM? They do have a discussion group, although not very active. If the meter can measure 1xSS phase for balancing, then you can do some diagnostic phase measurements. If you are thinking about cross-channel phase measurements, then you need a dual channel or multi-channel analyzer. Have you optimized procedures for this product or are you trying to justify purchasing a more powerfull analyzer like the CSI 2130?

Raul,

The analyser or data collector is not the ultimate in trouble shooting. All SPM or other make instruments are best one. You should understand the technology behind the monitoring methods like Shock pulse or Enveloping. You can do a good non-route study with Leonova. More over which version of Leonova you are using? Is it Leonova Infinity? For more details you can contact me on dinesha_handalasu@oxy.com.

Raul - you do not need analysis of phase to work out defects. This can be done using velocity spectrum and Gse or Spike Energy for bearings.

Hey Mike,

"you do not need analysis of phase to work out defects".

What about defects which do not relate to bearings..

I use SPM Leonova infinity, the next issue above yours. If it is the same as mine you can do analysis in the field. What you can or cannot do will depend on what you have loaded in your instrument. If your leonova cannot do instant analysis you will be able to do so in the condmaster software, i find that this is the easiest way to work anyway. Big Grin

Vrop, I use SPM Leonova, I would like to know how you can detect problems in bearings when you have a machine which change its speed everytime (like coilers) and also when the maximun speed reach 80 RPM, when i do my rounds i have some problems with that because sometimes i have high dBm and other times i have low dBm, for that reason I have to use the option "recording" in order to take more than one measurement, Do you have this kind of problems in your plant?.

We have variable speed drives here too. In the condmaster software when you set up your route you need to select measured, not preset. In the set up data in measuring point you need to select variable speed. What i do then is measure the speed with a strobe and enter that in the instrument before I take my readings. This will also sort out the high variation in shock pulse as the software compenstates for the speed that you set.

The slower speed stuff I tend to use timewave to see problems, I also have the spectra set for
only 1000hz.

Your freindly local spm rep should be able to sort this out for you if you are stuck, or email me at stephen.morgan@acetateproducts.com

Hope this helps
