Hi:

We are using Entek DataPac 1500 and want to change to DLI collector and software. The collectors in use are in very good conditions and my boss want a presentation to justify the change. Any idea where to go to find a comparison between both systems.

Thanks in advance...

Carlos

Carlos,

The DLI Watchman 31B and IS started life via DI (in Scotland) by Entek as Enpac 1200. DI is now known as SKF Instrumentation, so hardware (SKF/ROCKWELL(Entek)/DLI/BN (Snapshot IS)/IRD (256) et al) is basically the same!

Look at the software, if you need an Entek software upgrade, I think they have a 'buy back in' upgrade policy.

I cannot comment on DLI software as I have not used it but Emonitor is good and relatively easy to use - I have used it from dos days.

Emon software can be used with old Datapac and Enpac, and a selection of other instruments.

I guess it probably comes down to a cost and support issue.

But Wayne, you used to work for IRD/Entek/Rockwell (whatever its name is today)so you were fully familiar with the software and it would be easy to you.

I had one of your previous bosses out to try and sell me a system: it just didn't work. He didn't know how to set up an ICP transducer with a a scale factor of 100mV/g - it certainly wasn't intuitive software.

Most of the Entek/IRD people that used to bother me have now left the company (as I presume you have) and are now working for SKF

IO have used Entek as well since it was DOS.We went from the dos to EFW for Windows and now odyssey. From the IRD 890 to the Dataline and now the Enpac 2500.Once you get the hang as how to set up the software its fairly straightforward. There was a learning curve but still was fairly easy. The ENpac 2500 is quiet rugged. I have had no issues with any of the software or data collectors.

Sorry for the delay in get in back to the forum. Thanks to all for your help. Really what I’m looking for is data to support why we should move from Entek to DLI like labor cost, PM execution time and man hrs. saving so I can justify the change on a presentation.

Any way thanks again.

Carlos,

You will find none of those type numbers supported by a change from the 1500 to the 2500, or any of the smaller collectors, be it Entek, DLI, Bentley, Or SKF. The time savings is just not there.
There used to be a company who competed with IRD, who would set there box on digital overall, and the IRD box on analog overall, to show how much faster their box was than the IRD one.
You can do the same thing. Change your set ups to reflect an "RSS" (digital) overall and you'll go faster than you will with a change in box or software.
