Randwater JOHANNESBURG South Africa HI There I do not have a tip but I would like to know if anyone out there have a Large motor (2.2 Kv) condition monitoring program in place and know the pit falls that hamper these program. |

I guess motor diagnostics is required.

Terry and Josh:
Actually, it depends upon a number of things. In particular, an RCM-style analysis of the system, not just the motor. At 2300 volts, it actually should be reviewed to see what level of maintenance is required. Is it critical machinery? Will it effect personnel safety? What are the direct costs if the machine fails and what is the value of the machine? Perhaps all that is necessary are the minimum cleanliness PM's on the filters (if there are any) and oiling/greasing. If it is a large, non-critical motor with a value over, lets say, $25k USD, then it might be effective to perform vibration analysis and insulation to ground testing, at least. If it is a critical machine, then you may start looking at such things as motor circuit analysis, surge testing, electrical signature analysis, etc. etc. Do the right maintenance on the right equipment at the right times for the right reasons. And, whatever you do, take it in context of the system.
