Hi
Can anyone give me advice on measuring vibration in 'Can' pumps, sealess ones such as HMD. At the moment I just take velocity readings at the motor end. Is there anything that can be measured to monitor the condition of the Mag drive or outer can etc.
regards
Chemic.

You can try to refer to ISO vibration related standard which discuss about measuring vibration on non-rotating parts.

Chemic,

You need to look at a cutaway drawing for the model of interest. For example:

http://www.sundyne.com/cda/ind/pr/cutaway/0,10517,CLI1_...3_IMD2_MDI68,00.html

This model has both antifriction bearing and bushings. You should be measuring vibrations on the pump bearing housing as well as the motor.
