Good Day Cool
Does anybody know about smartprobes for machinery health monitoring? I just read about a device called PROsmart that claims it can monitor vibration, Temperature, level, pressure, seal leakage, cavitation, oil quality, etc for centrifugal pumps. I am looking for a tool for continuous condition monitoring of critical equipment so we don’t have to rely 100% in the operator checks.

That's a fantastic smartprobe because it can measure so many parameters! Do you mean 1 samrtprobe can measure multiple parameters? Do you have the smartlink to the website or manufacturer? TQ

Hello,

The device is from ITT Industries. I haven’t found the specs yet but it sound very interesting Confused. I want to use it in centrifugal pumps (oil & gas industry). See the link for a brochure: http://www.ittproservices.com/PROsmart_Brochure.html

Have you asked them for a demo to show that it can really track the parameters being claimed in their product brochure? TQ

ITT/Goulds developed a controller (VFD with a bigger brain) for centrifugal pumps a few years ago called PumpSmart. I saw the demo unit--it was pretty impressive. It will contol pump speed (or other parameters) to keep the pump on the curve. I'm pretty sure the PROSmart thing they have is the controller from the PumpSmart.

I called the engineer responsible for ProSmart to get the skinny on the product. I will try to find my notes on it tonight, and post them tomorrow. Near as I can remember, an article ran in Pumps & Systems Magazine about this unit from ITT, and that prompted my call to ITT about 2 or 3 months or more ago.

I believe that this unit does overall vibration only, if I remember correctly.

This is nothing new.
You can take a Analog Devices digital motor controller chip and use is as a data acquisition device. It runs at 26 MIPS or greater has DMA, 2 serial ports and PWM outputs that may be utilized for trip circutiry if desired. You can get 8 channels from a 14 bit device or 5 from a 16 bit sigma Delta unit.

I have a design that outputs the data from the serial port to a 40KHz encoder/decoder through a PIN Diode to a PC104 Pentium mounted on the wall. The computer wakes up the device and it collects data then transmits and shuts itself back down. You can get about year from as set of batteries as long as you don't wake it up too often. If you hard wire it, it can stay on continously.

The whole thing smaller than a pack of cigarettes.

It amounts ot an autonomous PdM Program.
