Hi All,
During the development of a strategy to maintain equipment the question was raised, "how do we check the integrity of structures that are fitted with cladding (refractory type paste) to ensure that corrosion hasn't weakened the structure, cost effectively?" The point is that one wouldn't wish to remove all the cladding on a scheduled basis just to do inspection. On other structure one can just do a visual but this is outside my experience field... Some help please as i don't know how to tackle this efectively. Thanks |

Are these structures with refractory paste at distillation column foundation or fin fan support structure?
To do the inspection, if I remember correctly, you have to break the linings to see inside. Not all though. Just at selected locations and repaste. How old is your plant that you start to worry about this? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Josh, |

Most CUI (corrosion under insulation) surveys are conducted via radiography. You can create a very good assessment of level of corrosion by completing a structured approach to this. Not every part of the structure need to be surveyed. However, depending on results, you may wish to develop the survey further. There are also various ultrasound techniques available for this type of survey. However, it more restrictive (size and geometry are important factors in this) in what can be achieved.
Hope this helps. Steve |
