This is the same topic that is on the Vibration posts. I thought it was more appropriate to place it under Technology.

OK Scott, what was the modifications that were installed to reduce the vibration levels?

The problem had started after our annual outage. FD Fan motor had been changed out. after start up we lost a bearing on the fan at night, no clearance between the coupling halfs of the drop out coupling was said to be the cause of the failure. At that time it was discovered the motor that was taken out had been modified and the bolt holes had been slotted, the new motor was not slotted. The mechanics faced the coupling to get some clearance to run. The high vibration was caused by not installing the drop out coupling properly. When the fan was taken down, the face of the coupling was not seated in the fit on the motor side, coupling correctly installed, alignment was found good. Vibration came back down.
